Minimal Access Surgery

Overview

Patient safety and health is our priority and thus we believe in providing the best services & technology-supported care, which helps us achieve WHO’s Initiative of ‘Safe Surgery, Save Lives’. The Centre performs both elective as well as emergency surgery to treat the full spectrum of conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach, gallbladder, spleen and intestines. Minimally Invasive or Minimal Access Surgery is our standard of care for both inpatient and outpatient procedures. We offer specialised assessment, latest treatments along with clinical post-operative care, medications and a regular follow-up. The advantages of this technique over traditional open surgery include a shorter hospital stay, faster recovery time; less pain and bleeding after the operation; and reduced scarring.

The Centre for Minimal Access Surgery at Sarvodaya Hospital is equipped with the latest technology and infrastructure, supported by an experienced team of surgeons. The department specialises in performing all major surgeries involving the abdomen, skin, breast, soft tissues, and hernias. Laparoscopic surgery also known as Keyhole Surgery or Minimally Invasive Surgery is a widely used surgical technique which when supported by highly trained doctors & surgeons, leads to surgeries with maximum precision, patient safety & faster recovery!

Our team comprises of internationally acclaimed surgeons, who work dedicatedly day & night to serve patients with their commitment & passion. Many of them are research and education enthusiasts, who strive to spread their knowledge with the younger batch of doctors to come.

The department is supported by the best technological infrastructure, comprising of the latest Ultrasound, X-ray, CT scan, MRI scan, and other Interventional Radiology facilities.

Our team of nurses and paramedic staffs work equally hard to aid the doctor team and help their patients during pre & post-operative care.

At Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec-19 we are supported with the highly advanced latest technology and medical equipment, available at Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec 8.

Minimal Access Surgery: Our department comprises a team of surgeons capable of delivering a very fine surgical job through small holes with the help of advanced endoscopic instruments. Benefits of Minimal Access Surgery include:

  • Minimal blood loss
  • Minimal tissue damage, hence less pain
  • Minimal post-operative infections
  • Minimal scarring
  • Faster recovery with shorter hospital stays

Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeries: Advanced surgeries are carried out using high precision minimal access techniques.

Upper GI Laparoscopic Surgeries:

  • Fundoplication for hiatus hernia,
  • Gastrojejunostomy
  • Achalasia cardia
  • Hepaticojejunostomy
  • Cystogastrostomy

Lower GI (Colorectal):

  • Laparoscopic Hemicolectomy
  • Laparoscopic Abdominoperineal resection
  • Laparoscopic Low and Ultra-low anterior resection
  • Laparoscopic rectopexy

Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeries: These surgeries are commonly known as “Weight Loss Surgeries” Bariatric Surgery/Weight Loss Surgery includes:

  • Sleeve Gastrectomy
  • Lap Gastric Bypass
  • Duodenal Switch

Endovenous Surgeries: This is a subspeciality of Minimally Invasive Surgery that is dedicated specifically to the treatment of varicose veins and venous ulcers of the leg. Varicose modalities of treatment are used depending on the severity of disease, patient presentation and other factors. Thermal techniques such as laser ablation in RFA ablation or non-thermal techniques such as foam sclerotherapy or Mechanochemical ablation (MOCA) are the common minimally invasive procedures used for venous disease.

Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgeries: Also called scarless surgery, this involves operating through a single incision and the umbilical scar using the routine laparoscopic instrument. Procedures like cholecystectomy, appendicectomy and hernia repair can be carried out through single-incision surgeries.

Laser Proctology: A new advanced technique in the management of proctology, which includes haemorrhoids, fissure, and fistula in laser ablation. Advantages include significantly less pain, shorter hospital stay, quicker recovery and early return to work.

Day-care Services: These include those surgeries or procedures, which do not take too long, and if the patient meets all the necessary criteria, the surgery can be done and the patient is discharged in a day span! These are also called Ambulatory Surgical Services; they generally do not exceed 90 minutes in length and do not require more than four hours of recovery time. Patients suitable for ambulatory surgery may require some form of anaesthesia, as well as a post-operative observation but can go home on the same day. These services are more cost-effective & convenient. Some of the services provided include:

  • Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (for Gallbladder Stones)
  • Lap Inguinal Hernioplasty
  • Lap Umbilical Hernioplasty
  • Lap/Open surgery of component separation for complex/domain loss hernia
  • Stapled HEMORRHOIDECTOMY (for Hemorrhoids)
  • Minor procedures like excisions of lumps, sebaceous cyst excision
  • Lap Appendectomy
  • Excision of breast lumps
  • Micro Varicocelectomy
  • Perineal Abscess I & D
  • Anal Dilatation and Lateral Sphincterotomy for Anal Fissure
  • Laparoscopy: Advanced laparoscopic surgery for acute abdomen and perforated gall bladder, appendix.
  • Advanced laparoscopy surgery for abdominal trauma. Available 24*7

At Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec-19 we are supported with the highly advanced latest technology and medical equipment, available at Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec 8.

Laparoscope: This is an effective tool used in Minimally Invasive Surgery for imaging and operative needs. It helps to conduct the surgery with minimal cuts and less bleeding.

C-Arm X-ray Machine: Used for its radiographic capabilities that allow fluoroscopic intraoperative imaging during surgical and emergency care procedures.

Cautery Machine: Used for haemostasis and tissue destruction by passing direct or alternating current through a resistant metal wire that stops blood vessels from bleeding.

ICG Camera: Used primarily in laparoscopic surgeries for imaging the visualisation of cells and tissues involved in certain areas.

Laser: For specific surgeries, we use a laser scalpel to cut tissues that offer reduce infection risk, maximum precision and less bleeding.

Harmonic: A surgical instrument, which uses ultrasonic vibrations to simultaneously cut and cauterize tissue with higher precision.

At Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec-19 we are supported with the highly advanced latest technology and medical equipment, available at Sarvodaya Hospital, Sec 8.

Diet Consultation: Before undergoing any surgery, a patient requires a proper diet. This is applicable post-surgery as well, as a special diet is often needed for a speedy recovery! We care for your health and thus we have a team of expert dietitians who provide necessary diet consultation to all our surgical patients.
